#1: Fresh starts ⛅️
This week, we're talking about how to define your own timeline this new year. Also a book recommendation, a few articles to freshen your perspective, and some motivation to drink your water.
We put so much emphasis on the New Year, but when you simplify it, we’re still moving from one day to the next.
The midnight between December 31 and January 1 is a matter of seconds; no different than any other midnight on any other day. But we put so much stock on this midnight because when it comes, the year changes as well.
This year, I’m challenging myself to not wait for the clock or calendar when I want to change for the better. Rather than waiting for a new day, week, month, or year, let’s empower ourselves to create our own threshold for change.
DO’S and DON’TS: a non-exhaustive guide
DO: Use that face mask, lotion, body wash, or bath bomb you’ve been afraid to use. Life is short, baby; use the expensive stuff.
DON’T: Straighten or curl your hair without a heat protectant. We all remember that video where that girl burned her hair off with a curling iron.
DO: Wash your sheets. If you have to ask, it’s already been too long.
DON’T: Wear your outside clothes in bed. We’re leaving that crusty behavior in 2021.
DO: Rewatch your favorite 2000s action movie. You know, the one you always used to watch with your dad.
DON’T: Forget to text someone you love today. We all could use a reminder that someone is thinking of us fondly.

The heroine recommends: Cultish by Amanda Montell
This book breaks down the ways cult leaders manipulate their followers through language and persuasion. It also raises an interesting discussion about “cult followings” around workout classes, social media, and multilevel marketing schemes.
